You’d think we’d all be Zoom pros by now, but there’s always that one person who makes video calls a little more frustrating than they need to be. Whether it’s being late, interrupting, or forgetting to mute, small missteps can become major annoyances. To keep your Zoom etiquette impeccable, follow these 5 simple tips:
1. Don’t Be Late.
You’re not making an entrance. Being tardy looks bad to everyone in the group because they can all see when you arrive.
2. Don’t Eat on the Call.
Schedule your meals or snacks around your Zoom calls, not during them.
3. Don’t Interrupt.
This goes beyond Zoom. Be patient—you will get your turn to speak.
4. Mute Your Microphone.
Just like turning your phone off at the movies, always hit mute when you’re not speaking. Nobody wants to hear background noise from your house or anyone else’s.
5. Use a Professional Stock Photo.
It’s okay to turn off your camera briefly if you need to take a quick break. Just ensure your profile photo is appropriate and professional. Keep in mind, if your camera is off the entire meeting, it might seem suspicious depending on your company’s culture.
