1. Explain The Election Process

  • Start with the basics:  From the requirements to be a candidate and primaries, to the national conventions and electoral college.
  • Test their knowledge and quiz them on how many electoral votes are at stake in their state.

2. Share Your Political Views

  • Let kids know that it’s ok to have their own opinion.
  • Kids need to think for themselves, and a presidential election is a great time to share their opinions.

 3. Watch The Debates Together

  • Kids get their news digitally so have family night; let the tv sparks fly!
  • Drive home the point that whether you’re for or against someone, it’s an opportunity to make them a part of the decision making process.

4. Tackle The Tough Topics

  • Whether its VP Biden on green energy or Pres. Trump on law and order, teach them to be open-minded when it comes to politics.
  • Choice is the American way, and I can’t think of a better civics lesson than democracy in action.

5. Reinforce Freedom of Speech

  • The political process wouldn’t take place without differing opinions, yet we are losing our basic right to speak up and have an opinion.
  • Healthy dialogue should be embraced; we can all disagree on issues and candidates while still being courteous to one another.
