Sending a thank you note after a business interview is a crucial step in the job application process. It reflects your professionalism and courtesy, while also providing strategic advantages that can positively influence the interviewer’s perception and possibly sway the hiring decision in your favor. Here’s your step-by-step guide:

Remember the 3 B’s:

  • Be Brief. Keep it short and straightforward.
  • Be Organized. Structure your thoughts clearly.
  • Be Neat. Ensure your note is well-written and legible.

Writing a thank you note is both essential and simple, often requiring only a few lines and a few minutes of your time.

What to Say and How to Say It.

A thank you note is always in style. When composing yours, reference specific points discussed during the interview. Highlight briefly why you are a strong candidate, reiterating your interest and enthusiasm for the role.

Email vs. Handwritten Notes.

Email inboxes are often cluttered with spam, and important messages can easily be overlooked or accidentally deleted. To truly stand out, send a handwritten note within 48 hours of the interview. This personal touch ensures the interviewer remembers you. If sending a handwritten note isn’t feasible, follow up with a phone call the next day to mention that your thank you note is in their inbox. This small step reinforces your interest and professionalism.
