7 Things You Should Never Do at a Hotel | Golden Rules Gal

  1. Forget Your Manners With The Staff. From the front desk to housekeeping, concierge, and anyone else attending to your every need.
  1. Forget Gratuity. Housekeeping cleans your room nightly so don’t forget to leave a nightly tip. I like to do so at the beginning of my trip, but you can also leave it at the end.
  1. Pinch Hotel Items. I don’t mean shampoo and lotion. Think bathrobes and pillows.
  1. Smoke. If your room says non-smoking, then abide by the rules.
  1. Be Noisy. Keep noise to minimum not only when you are in your room, but when you open and close the door. This can be very loud for the person on either side of you.
  1. Be a Slob. I get it; you’re paying $1000 a night at a luxury hotel, but that doesn’t mean you have to leave the place in shambles. My motto: Always leave the place better than you found it. You can do this without emptying the garbage or changing the sheets yourself.
  1. Monopolize Common Areas. If there are limited outlets in the lobby, don’t charge for hours. If you’re at the gym, stay on the machine for 30 min. max unless you’re alone, etc.

A Brief Intermission

Dear Friends,

Even the most refined tables need a moment to reset, and so does this space. I’ll be taking a short pause until June 2nd as I fine-tune, refresh, and elevate things behind the scenes. Think of it as a well-mannered intermission; good etiquette includes knowing when to step back and return better than before.

Thank you for your patience. I look forward to welcoming you back with elegance, fresh insights, and timeless tips!

With gratitude and grace,
