I don’t know what made me remember this. Maybe because I’m writing this during my anniversary month, I thought about how lucky I’ve been to have a wonderful family and extended family. My aunt, Agnes, who hosted a bridal shower for me, had everyone ‘present’ me a note of advice. I thought it was archaic at the time, and I giggled when I read them aloud. But guess what? I never forgot them, and I use many to this day:
- Always come to breakfast with combed hair.
- Wear a dab of perfume on your neck.
- Kiss your husband good morning.
- Never go to bed angry.
- Wear lipstick.
- Agree to disagree.
- Never stress; it will make you sick.
- Think about your spouse before taking care of your own needs.
- Give your spouse space when needed.
Two of my Aunts, Agnes and Phyllis, who continue to give me advice.
