You’ve been invited to a party. You RSVP yes. The day before the party your husband gets Covid, so you’re both quarantined. Sound familiar? Everyone I know is going through this or will go through this. Plans were made to be changed especially in this day and age.
Here are 5 ways to tell your host or guests that the party is over before it got started:
1. Be drama-less.
This is not 2020. State the obvious, and they’ll be thrilled that you’re staying put.
2. Don’t be scared to say the word no.
It’s only one syllable, but it scares a lot of people. You don’t need to go into detail. All you have to share is that you’re not feeling well and cannot make the party. Many people are private so respect their space.
3. If you already RSVPed yes, then you have to tell them no.
Pick up the phone or email them. State the facts and move on.
4. Skip the soapbox speech.
Less is more when it comes to detail, especially when the host already has enough on their plate.
5. Politeness matters.
As a matter of fact, when your behavior comes from a level respect and consideration, it will come back in spades.
Happy Holidays for the Health of It!
